The Wizard of Oz - Where does Dorothy's journey meet yours?

I saw a reel from Oprah Winfrey, and it got me thinking.

Maybe we are all a little bit like Dorothy in our own Wizard of Oz story.

We move through life trying to understand things, heal parts of ourselves and sometimes searching outside ourselves for answers, love, validation or safety.

And along the way, we meet people.

Not only romantic partners, but family, friends, colleagues, clients and others who touch something within us.

Some relationships feel safe and supportive.

Others confront us with a deeper question:

What am I actually accepting?

Where am I crossing my own boundaries?

Where am I trying so hard to understand someone else that I forget myself?

Where am I waiting for someone to change?

Where am I looking outside myself for validation?

That does not mean another person’s behaviour is your fault.

But relationships can show us where we still doubt our own worth, where we tolerate too much and where we may need to choose ourselves more deeply.

That is what I love about Dorothy’s journey.

The Scarecrow believes he needs intelligence.

The Tin Man believes he needs a heart.

The Lion believes he needs courage.

Yet during the entire journey, they are already showing that they carry exactly what they are searching for.

And Dorothy?

She wants to go home.

Until she discovers that she had the way home with her all along.

Maybe we do the same.

We wait for permission.

For recognition.

For someone to choose us.

For someone to tell us we are enough.

But perhaps self-love begins with a different question:

Why am I giving someone else the power to decide what I am worth?

Self-love does not mean you stop loving other people.

It means you stop abandoning yourself in order to keep someone else.

And perhaps that is our own yellow brick road.

Not a journey toward someone else.

But a journey back to ourselves.

You had the shoes all along. 🌸
